Doug came home from work last night saying he was pretty sure he had a hole in his exhaust pipe when his car was making very loud noises as he drove. He said he felt like it was breathing it in on the way home as well and we both weren't excited about more car repair bills. I told him I would take care of the car the next day and he should just take the minivan to work. Besides, he would feel so cool driving it around with no kids in it!
After asking my mom for help and making arrangements, I remembered that we had free towing with our AAA membership and realized I was crazy for trying to drive a car (with the kids!) that had exhaust coming into it while pregnant and I could just make a phone call. Ethan and Sydney were entertained for 20 minutes watching the tow truck hook up Doug's car and slide it on board the truck.
After the tow truck pulled away, I realized that it was warm enough outside that we took a stroll to the bank, ACE Hardware, and the library that are all very close to our house. I had no idea how much my kids loved popcorn that comes free at ACE. They would do just about anything for one of those little bags of magic.
As we left the library, I felt doomed with vehicles when one of the tires went flat on the stroller. I had the kids walk back home as I wheeled the stroller.
Sydney loves salty foods and had polished off her popcorn a while ago. She asked Ethan for some of his and they stopped in the middle of the road (safety first!) and handed her some popcorn. It was so sweet. They share so well. All the talk of "ask him for a turn when he's done" or "ask him if you can have some" is finally paying off when they start to do it themselves!
