Today was a day with some stability--not a lot of changes.
Ethan is now up to 24 calories per ounce by using some Human Milk Enhancer.
Sydney has moved to 22 calories per ounce using the same enhancer.
Ethan remained the same weight.
Sydney gained 10 grams--closer to 3 lb 9 oz.
Ethan is still on 29 cc per day and Sydney is catching up with him (again) and now at 28 cc.
Ethan evidently had a brady (bradycardia) last night that was pretty severe. A brady is when their heart rate slows. It appears to be pretty sudden and happens with premies. This is why they have them both on caffeine to help stimulate their heart. At 1 am last night, he had one that lasted 50 seconds (every other one he has had lasted 5-10 seconds before he fully recovers). The scary part was that he went blue and the nurse had to rub him quite a bit to get his heart to beat faster. Doug and I were glad we weren't there (and I am sure the nurse would be too).

We talked to the doctor tonight and got approval for us to do a feeding and then pass the baby to Doug--this means that they are out of their crib longer than the normal 30 minutes. We are so thrilled to have this in the doctor's 'orders' because the nurses are more apt to comply and not argue with us...or tell us we can't do it...or be irritated with us for asking... We will re-evaluate on Friday to see if they are still gaining weight.
Here's a funny video. I guess they've been pretty active and 'naughty' as the nurse said today. She came in to find both their feeding tubes completely out of their noses and later today, found that Ethan's monitors were on Sydney. She was surprised that the monitors weren't beeping--they did a good job in the switch. They are clever babies (not a surprise...they are our babies!) The nurses say they like babies like this because they progress faster. Good thing!

ps. we'll be in utah hopefully friday night at the spring hill suites around 8-9 pm. emmeli will be performing all day from 9-5 at the red barn at thanksgiving point. we'd love to see you! but..just to let you know I have a bad case of strep throat. i was put on antibiotics last night so I won't be "contagious" by friday, but i would never want to give you or your babies anything, so I totally understand if you want to keep your "distance!" if you want to come watch emmeli dance, it is $10 per person to come in and watch her or if you just want to visit in the parking lot, call me on my cell phone and let me know and we could meet you outside! love ya!

Great picture. I love all the good news!
What a cute picture! We are so glad that the babies are doing well, your whole family has been in our prayers. We love you all! Heather know that you are greatly missed (its hard to not see someone when you've become so use to seeing them on a weekly basis) :)
I think you need to frame this family picture! It was so fun to be able to see them right after this picture was taken, and look forward to the day when they can be held by other people (who shall be nameless) right Susan!
Love, Grandma Joy
