Is this Groundhog Day?

I hate the movie "Groundhog Day". Ironically, when we were first married, Doug mentioned that he really liked the movie. Our days in the "Special Care Nursery" this last week have felt like a scene in that movie. Not a whole lot of change, and we keep waking up to the same routine.

We heard a bit of good news today. Both Ethan and Sydney gained so much weight that the doctors and nurses aren't sure if it's accurate. Ethan gained 100 grams or so, putting him up 3 ounces and Sydney gained 70--putting her up 2 ounces. We'll wait to hear how much they weigh tomorrow to see if they are accurate. Sydney's initial test for RSV came back negative--thank Heaven. Also, the doctor who called us today mentioned that we would look at doing some nutritive feeding at the end of the week. We've known that was why we would be meeting with Annie, the occupational therapist Friday afternoon, but it was great to have the doctor mention it! They also took them off of caffeine. They've been giving it to them to help reduce the bradys, but they have been doing really well (infrequent bradys or bradycardia) and don't need it anymore. The doctor said that should help with their weight gain.

The bit of 'bad' news was the Sydney had some irregularity in her heart beat at 7 am this morning. They did an EKG shortly after 7 am and found that her heart was skipping beats. They pulled her feeding tube and put in a smaller one (same length, but not so wide) and that seemed to have corrected the problem. They said that the tube could've been causing it because the tube could be irritating a nerve. They are going to monitor it and see if she has any other issues. It made for an eventful day for Sydney--she slept most of the day.

We have made friends with 2 other sets of parents in Special Care (who were also with us in the NICU at one time). There are 2 other sets of multiples--twins and triplets. We were excited for the parents of the triplets tonight--two of their three babies went home nearly 2 weeks ago and now the last triplet is preparing to leave Tuesday. They were born at 34 weeks and this last triplet has been at the hospital for about 6 weeks. We are so grateful to have an opportunity to share this with other parents and rejoice in their successes.

We made Sydney and Ethan some valentines today and put them on their bed. I searched high and low for some Valentines outfits that were small enough to fit them with no success. The taped valentine had to do.

I think that Sydney wanted to know "what the heck the doctor was doing with her brother". She didn't want him to have a pokie owie' They are so sweet and I can't wait to meet them.

They look like their onesies are fitting them better. Are they premie onesies or newborn ones? Sorry I didn't make it down to see them. I got a tiny case of the sniffles, and didn't want to share with ANYONE! Thanks for the update. Will they do another blood test on little miss Sydney? They are sooooo cute. Can't wait until we celebrate their homecoming. Nutritive feeds-YIPEE.
